The Mid-Autumn Festival, also known as the Moon Festival, is a popular harvest festival celebrated by Chinese people, dating back over 3,000 years to the Shang Dynasty.
The Mid-Autumn Festival is held on the 15th day of the eighteenth month in the Chinese calendar. It is a date that parallels the autumnal equinox of the solar calendar, when the moon appears at its fullest and brightest. It is the day when families get together enjoy a hearty dinner, watch the moon and eat cakes.
Hometown China at Exton Square Mall, joined by Chinese for Families and OCA-Philadelphia, will present the Festival with a special celebration on Saturday, October 10th from 2-4pm. Activities include Chinese folk dance,a fashion show, puppet show, calligraphy, and crafts for kids. The celebration is free and open to the public!
